Original music composed and arranged by Nolan Gasser
Lyrics by Frank Olivier
Nolan Gasser is a critically acclaimed composer, pianist, and musicologist – most notably, the architect of Pandora Radio’s Music Genome Project. His original works have been performed in such prestigious venues as Carnegie Hall, the Kennedy Center, Alice Tully Hall, La Salle Pleyel (Paris), and the Rose Bowl (Pasadena), among many others. His current projects include an opera, The Secret Garden, commissioned by San Francisco Opera (premiered to rave reviews in March 2013) – moving next to Houston Grand Opera in spring 2014, a musical, Benny and Joon, in partnership with MGM On Stage, premiering off-Broadway in fall 2014, and a forthcoming book on the interrelation of music and science. Upcoming commissions include a work for jazz quartet and orchestra, a ballet, and a number of projects for TV and film. As a pianist, Dr. Gasser performs as a soloist and with his jazz group, the San Francisco Jazz Quartet. He lectures frequently on the nature of musical taste.
Frank tells the story about meeting Nolan. "I fondly remember an early meeting with Nolan, with him at the piano as I tried to describe the feel we were going for:
Circus.
No... more dissonant... TWISTED
Now a bit more more gypsy.
Make it more upbeat.
Now try to play that as a funk tune...
He did it! I knew right then & there I had the right guy for the job!"
